Awareness-raising and promotional activities related to Sheds (including Community Sheds, Men’s Sheds, and Women’s Sheds).

Research, data collection, and advisory activities on the effects and impact of Sheds.

Consulting, planning, and business development support to enhance the sustainability and growth of Sheds.

Organization of workshops and seminars related to Sheds.

Human resource development to support workshops and seminars related to Sheds.

Strengthening collaboration and coordination among organizations involved in Shed activities.

Hosting and managing conferences and related events that promote social connections within communities and foster information sharing and collaboration across regions.

Establishing international research and development hubs related to Sheds.

Other activities necessary to achieve the objectives of the organization.

Efforts to prevent unwanted social isolation and loneliness—that is, to build a primary prevention system for loneliness and social isolation—remain insufficient in Japan.

The participation rate of older men in community activities and social spaces is significantly lower than that of older women.

The Act on the Promotion of Measures against Loneliness and Isolation, enacted in 2024 (Reiwa 6), explicitly states the importance of fostering loose or informal social connections.

As one option for cultivating such informal social connections, Sheds have begun to be established and operated across Japan.

To support the operation of Sheds in Japan, the Japan Community Shed Association provides information, resources, and financial assistance to Shed initiatives nationwide.

・望まない社会的孤立・孤独を未然に防ぐ取り組み、すなわち孤独・孤立の一次予防システムの構築が不十分である。

・高齢男性の通いの場等への参加率が高齢女性よりも低い現状がある。

・令和６年に施行された孤独・孤立対策推進法では、ゆるやかな社会的つながりを育んでいくことの重要性が明記された。

・このゆるやかな社会的つながりを育むための選択肢の一つとして、シェッドが日本で運営されるようになってきた。

・日本でのシェッド運営を支援するため、日本コミュニティー・シェッド協会では、シェッドへの情報提供や資金提供を行っていく。
